My joys, my sorrows, are my own;
You'll only know, what is already known.
Don't come too close, don't seek my ends,
You're just someone I know, we'll never be friends.

It is not my duty,
To clear doubts about my identity.
It for you to describe with adjectives you choose,
You may praise, you may abuse.

I have a place to be, a path to tread;
I haven't the inclination, to pay you heed.
I am what I am and I shall so be,
I'm what you think to you and me to me.

The Happy Prince
